Entry#2 Beauty and Self
Today's topic is beauty and the self. What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think of beauty? Do you think of people, nature, or something different? When I think of beauty I think about all the above and more. I know it's cliche to say but I think there is beauty in everything. However, I do hate the concept of beauty standards because it takes away from our inner and outer beauty. All of a sudden you see a model in front of a magazine cover and wish we looked like that. We see someone with our dream body and wish we had that body. But where did this whole idea come from? What made eurocentric standards the beauty standard? Why can't we just show off our so-called impurities to the world? We as humans should embrace our unique features and not be ashamed of them. Accepting ourselves as whom we are allows us to find our true selves. A saying I follow is," if you don't love yourself, you can't love anyone else". This is true because I experienced it and struggled due to it. So it's important to have some care and self-love. By permitting it we are allowing ourselves to be content and find inner peace. To acknowledge self-love means to compare ourselves a little less. It also opens our worldview and allows us to reach out to others who are struggling. Remember societies beauty standards do not define us and we are all beautiful.
I wholeheartedly agree with your blog post. Today's society can make it difficult to truly love yourself and feel self confident when the beauty standard is so messed up that every girl has something they're insecure about. I also agree that these standards don't define us! I love your take on this subject and enjoyed your opinion :).
ReplyDeleteKareli--Your blog is looking pretty good so far. You have some interesting content and ideas. Keep working on visual engagement with images/links/videos, etc. You are a bit brief in your development and analysis, so keep working to make connections to your audience. Keep at it. Also, you are missing Entry #1.
