Entry#5 Arizona
Today's topic is Ducey and college, graduates. According to the article, Doug Ducey wants to have an increase in college graduates. However, it would increase taxes and wages. But it would decrease poverty and create more jobs. Reading this article from a student's perspective is worrisome because college is already difficult enough and there are many requirements to graduate. Also, it seems like he only cares about college graduates to spike Arizona's economy as it will create more jobs for people with college degrees or certificates. I feel like in order to have more people with degrees and certificates they need to fix the education system in general. Low-income families are less advantaged compared to middle- or upper-class families who have access to higher education. Not only that but low-income families tend to graduate from high school or drop out. If they graduate, they might continue their education or find a job. Minorities are also disadvantaged as they have limited resources. Also, his plan should be more specific on how he wants to improve the number of graduates because he gave some statistics but how are they going to be achieved. What is the process? Will it be easier for college students to graduate? Will it be easier for students to get their certificates? How much will the wages increase? How much will tax increase? All in all, the article is leaned towards students mainly those who are in college or vocational schools.
