Entry#9 Media

Today's topic is media. Media is a diverse concept as its seen everywhere. It consists of advertisements, billboards, music, social media, radio, and more. My first initial thought of media consisted of social media and news sources. However, media can be in, many forms like print media such as publications, newspapers, journals, magazines, books, and reports. Broadcast media consists of audio, advertisements, emails, internet, texts, radio, and tv. However, the media can set unrealistic expectations and standards. For example. family types in movies or tv shows portray the perfect family or true love. Not every family looks like a nuclear family and love also isn't perfect and hard to find. Another example is unrealistic beauty standards, the media portrays men as masculine with fit bodies. Females in the beauty industry advertise products when they themselves are models or have little to no flaws. Both men and women are also vulnerable because they get sexualized by the media. Also, when it comes to the news it typically tends to be one-sided as you need to do thorough research for accurate reliable information. Another bad habit we all do is being addicted to social media like Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter. This could lead once again to unrealistic beauty standards, low self-esteem, and depression. Also, the media consumes a major part of our lives as we are surrounded by and use it every day. By this, I mean our phones as it conveys information through our cellular device.
